As the nation's largest provider of residential environmental education, the Georgia 4-H Environmental Education Program invites your school to join the safe haven of Georgia's Outdoor Classroom. Endorsed by the Georgia Department of Education and in compliance with the time-on-task ruling, the Georgia 4-H Environmental Education Program is operated by the University of Georgia’s Cooperative Extension.

Situated 13 miles from Brunswick, GA, Jekyll Island is a prime example of a barrier island. The Jekyll Island 4-H Center's location allows easy access to beach, marsh, and maritime forest ecosystems. Students take advantage of Jekyll Island's undisturbed natural environment. Classes are all hands-on education incorporating math, science, art, social studies, history and writing into a rewarding and entertaining format. Visting teachers and the Jekyll 4-H Center staff work together to provide a well-rounded and safe interdisciplinary learning experience. The Jekyll 4-H Environmental Education Program is in complete accordance with the Georgia State Department of Education curriculum guidelines. Statewide, the 4-H Environmental Education Program provides field study sites for schools at five different locations. The varied settings allow students to fully experience Georgia's piedmont, mountain and coastal regions. Jekyll 4-H offers 3-day/2-night residential programs and day programs (on a space available basis) serving grades 1-12.

Tidelands Nature Center is a University of Georgia 4-H Program located on the west side of Jekyll Island. Tidelands offers marine science exhibits and programs for school groups and the general public. Public programs, including nature walks and kayaking tours featuring a variety of coastal habitats and wildlife, are available year-round. Drop in and meet a juvenile loggerhead sea turtle, snakes, alligators, sting rays and other animals found along the Georgia coast!
